Frequently Asked Questions
COSMETIC TATTOING
Allow approximately 3-4 hours, depending on the style of the cosmetic tattoo.
How long does it take to do a cosmetic tattoo?
Q
A
Any cosmetic tattoo generally take approximately 4 weeks to heal completely. The older the skin the slower the turnover of new skin cell generation. The first two weeks are really important and proper care taken will ensure your new cosmetic tattoo will last for the maximum time.
How long does the healing take?
Q
A
Cosmetic tattoos, compare to body tattoos, are designed to slowly fade over time. Generally they last somewhere between 2 and 5 years, depending on a lot of factors such as skin condition and type, sun exposure, medication, personal care etc. At Cosmetic Ink we offer an annual refresh at discounted prices for our existing clients.
How long does it last?
Q
A
It is completely up to you. Cosmetic tattoo is semi-permanent, that means the tattoo is slowly fading as the pigments gradually break down and are exposed to UVR. Cosmetic pigments are different than those used for body tattoos, they are not as concentrated therefore not as harsh for a thinner facial skin. To maintain its saturation it is recommended to book your ‘annual refresh’ with Sim. But as long as you are happy with the saturation you don’t have to get it done again.
Do I have to come back in a year or so for a maintenance?
Q
A
We all have different pain thresholds. Cosmetic tattoo as with any body tattoo might be unpleasant for someone. High quality numbing creams are used throughout the whole procedure. Most of our clients fall asleep!
Does it hurt?
Q
A
Cosmetic tattooing needs two sessions. The goal of the first visit is to achieve a light-medium saturation of colour. The second visit (touch-up) will be in 5 - 6 weeks after the first one, to add more pigment and to make it just perfect.
Why do I need a touch up?
Q
A
You can have your touch up done within 12 weeks. After that you might have to pay a full price (of an initial session).
What if I don’t have the touch up in 5 weeks? Can I come later?
Q
A
Because the healing process takes about 4-5 weeks, then you have a touch up and another 4-5 weeks of healing, we highly recommend not having any important event such as wedding etc. to attend for 3 months. It’s simply because your tattoo needs this time to fully heal.
Why do you discourage having a cosmetic tattoo done before an event?
Q
A
No, all the numbing creams are provided and no need to pay any extra $
Do I need to bring my own numbing cream?
Q
A
Fish oil thins blood as well as alcohol. Blood thinners may increase bleeding. When tattooing we implant a pigment into the skin, blood pushes it out. Therefore it is better to stop using non-prescription blood thinners (including fish oil) at least one week before your appointment. For prescription blood thinners please contact me directly.
Why am I asked if I use fish oil or other prescription or non-prescription blood thinners?
Q
A
By paying the deposit you are committing and reserving the appointment time so that no one else can take your place. As a session is around 3 hours, people who don’t commit might change their minds at the last minute and not show up, the appointment could have been used by someone else. We do require 5 full working days notice to reschedule your appointment. Failure to give the required notice will result in loss of deposit. Thank you for your understanding.
Why do I have to pay a deposit?
Q
A
No, the full payment is required on the time of procedure.
Do you have an Afterpay?
